Introduction

EnergySys has partnered with AWS to provide integration with customer resources via EventBridge. Amazon EventBridge is a serverless event bus service that makes it easy to connect applications with data from a variety of sources.

We are the first AWS Energy Competency Partner to offer Amazon EventBridge integration. Using this integration, EnergySys customers will be able to configure the publishing of events to Amazon EventBridge.

Use Cases

There are a wide range of use cases that are made possible by the integration with Amazon EventBridge. Below are some of the initial use cases identified. We plan to support more event types and add more use cases in future. The integration supporting the feed of Lab Sample data is already available from our Measurements Service.

Get updates when Lab Samples are submitted to EnergySys

Receive events when laboratory analyses of gas or oil samples are submitted to EnergySys, so that metering systems can be updated with the new sample data.

Visualise the incidence of bad data in your measurement streams

Receive events when bad records are received from the measurements stream, so that visualisation dashboards can be created.

Monitor generation of Alarms in EnergySys

Receive events when Alarms are raised in EnergySys, so that remediation tasks can be initialised.

Subscription

To activate integration via Amazon EventBridge, open the Amazon EventBridge integrations page, find EnergySys and click on the link to open the Amazon EventBridge partner page for EnergySys in the AWS Console. Here you will be able to access the subscription page

The following information is required to subscribe to the integration:

  • EnergySys instance for which the integration should be enabled. Only instances accessible by your user will be selectable here.
  • ID of the AWS Account that should receive events via EventBridge.
  • AWS region in which the events will be delivered.
  • Object type for which events should be generated.

On submission of the request, a confirmation page will be displayed

EnergySys will validate the request and create a Partner Event Source for the instance, account, region, and object type requested. Once this is complete, you will be notified via email, and you will be able to see the Partner Event Source in your AWS console under Amazon EventBridge > Partner event sources

The status of the newly created Partner Event Source will be Pending. Once the Partner Event Source is associated with an event bus, the Partner Event Source will become active. From this point onwards events will start to flow from EnergySys to the destination account. You will be able to configure EventBridge rules to decide what should happen in your AWS environment on receipt of events via the Partner Event Source.
